A while back, I said I would go into more detail about the magic of Rani’s world. Actually, there are three different types of magic, but I won’t get into that here.
There are a lot of rules that govern magic. Warlocks can only cast spells within their power, or else they must have help (or steal power, of course). Some humans magic that is so powerful it can’t be taken from them. Serious consequences can befall even the most powerful, however, if they make a mistake in spell-casting or try to craft their own spell improperly.
I think one of the hardest things about magic is making sure that there are still stakes. If magic solves everything or has no downside, there’s not much of a story, is there?
